I’ve had this jump starter for about a year and it has been used a lot. The unit is small and light weight making it easy to use. I’ve used it on several different vehicles and have had no problems. It’s nice not to have to ask for help when your battery goes dead. You just need to be careful that you don’t overcharge the battery in the unit or it will ruin it. I’ve been able to start my vehicle with this unit without a problem even if the temperature is below 30 degrees F. It takes a while but it does work. Highly recommend this product.
I purchased this because I was tired of having to go get another vehicle every time my battery was dead. I used it twice now on my pick up truck, once on my wifes car and once on a 4 wheeler battery and all worked like a charm! This thing works!!! I bought this product based on review’s and I’ll tell you what..this thing works great!! It has saved me multiple times in the past two years! If you are looking for a good quality booster pack with some decent power, then buy this one! You won’t regret it. This item did not work at all. The green light came on, but when tried to start car nothing happened. The lights flickered as if something was happening but the engine didn’t even turn over.
So called customer service (Booster Pac) they said the unit had to be charged for 24 hours and then try again. Did that and got same result except the lights were dimmer. Called them back and they said there was nothing they could do because it was out of warranty by 3 months (even though unit only had been used twice in that time). This is obviously a flaw in design or manufacture as other reviews for this product describe same problem as mine.
Is it easy to use?
I have been using my ES5000 for a few weeks now. The first thing I noticed was the quality of the unit. It is very well made with some of the most solid jumpers I have ever owned. This unit came with a nice storage case that is strong and durable, unlike other cases that are made of plastic and crack on impact easily. The case also has a pocket for all the accessories that come with the ES5000, like the light bulb and charger.
The ES5000 is set up to be very easy to use. There are no switches or buttons to push to charge it up or turn it on, just plug it in and let it charge up automatically. Once charged, you can use the 12 volt power port on the back of the unit to power any 12 volt device you need, such as air compressors, tire inflators etc.. There are 3 built in lights on this unit. On the side there is a red light that glows when charging and turns green when fully charged and ready for use. In front there are 2 more lights; one is used as a work light and one as a flashing emergency light for roadside emergencies.
I tested this unit out by charging it up fully then disconnecting from power source, letting it situnused for 3 weeks. Upon reconnecting it to my car battery (which was completely dead) it started right up without any issues. This unit is advertised as being able to jump start up to 15 times before having to be recharged. I would need several months of testing and dozens of jump starts before I could verify this claim but so far I have been very impressed with its performance. One thing that was very important for me about an external battery pack was its overall size and weight.
What could be improved?
This is a good jump starter but it could be great if they had not added the 12v outlet. I have used it several times without issue until I went to use it this past weekend and found it was not working. I had a cheap car charger plugged into the 12v adapter to charge my cell phone while driving. When I went to jump my car, I found the unit had no charge. It was a very frustrating situation.
I contacted ES5000 and they said that using any device other than their supplied jumper cable would void the warranty (even though the 12v outlet was designed for accessory power) and that it would cost me $35 to ship it back for inspection. I believe the problem with this unit is that there is only one charging port that can power both the battery charger and the 12v outlet at the same time. If you are charging your cell phone from the 12v outlet, you are also charging your battery at 1/2 speed. If you have it plugged in overnight, you may never get a full charge on your battery. If they offered a separate charging port for just charging the battery, this issue would be resolved.
